The issue: The FDA approved a tiny telescopic device placed in the eye that can restore sight to older patients, who have age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The problem: The FDA-approved medical device was a true breakthrough. However, the group offering the device, surgical services and rehabilitation therapy needed help with their communications initiatives in Florida. They reached out to us to help with their public relations.

The strategy: Working closely with the client, we began media outreach in Florida markets, as surgical teams finished their training and started offering their services more broadly. And, of course, we did rounds of follow-up calls and emails with selected reporters, broadcasters and editors.

The process: We found great stories among the patients who underwent the procedure. We interviewed those people and then crafted press releases that emphasized both the medical breakthrough and the difference it was making in restoring sight and independence in more and more lives.

We have worked with Susan on medical-related projects in several Florida markets, including Tampa, Sarasota, Jacksonville, Pensacola and South Florida. Susan was essential to a successful launch of CentraSight’s new medical procedure in these media markets. She translated complicated medical terminology into easy-to-read press releases and media pitches. Her excellent media outreach resulted in several very informative articles. We also relied on Susan to work smoothly with patients, doctors and staff all over the state. Because of her efforts, many older patients have learned about a new FDA-approved procedure, developed by CentraSight that can overcome some forms of vision impairment due to macular degeneration. As members of the media expressed interest, we followed up with more information, photos, graphics and video. We also worked with some medical professionals to guide and prepare them in dealing with media.

The results: Our efforts resulted in media coverage in several markets including stories in the St. Petersburg Times, Lakeland Ledger, Jacksonville Times Union, Bradenton Herald and Northwest Florida Daily News, and an appearance on Suncoast View ABC/WWSB.

We continue to help promote the project, as more medical teams prepare to offer the service and therapy in Florida.

Honored to tell the stories of those helped by FDA-approved device that can restore vision in some patients.
Coverage in Tampa Bay Times, Bradenton Herald, Lakeland Ledger and more.
